Make a cover page for the Unit with a timeline (pg 184) and the title of the unit.

1.        What does the word Church mean?
2.       Describe the area of the world being referred to as “the West”. 
3.       What 2 religions existed in the 11th Century (pg 187)?  What was the 3rd religion added by the end of the 13th century?
4.       What did it mean by Jesus being “the Christ”?
5.       Why do you think Roman and Jewish officials were not happy with Jesus?
6.       How did Christianity first start to spread?
7.       How did the Christianity in Eastern and Western Europe differ?
8.       How did Kings influence the growth of Christianity?
9.       Read the document on pg. 192 and do the two questions under it.
10.   Draw a ‘flow chart’ to show the power structure of the Church.
11.   Read about the three religious orders on pg 194, what did an “order” seem to be?
12.   What is an “Abbey”?
13.   What is a sacrament?
14.   The powers of the Church were divided into temporal and spiritual.  What do these mean?  How are they different? How are they connected?
